For those of you not familiar, Locks of Love is a non profit organization that takes human hair and fashions hair pieces for children who cannot grow their own hair due to illnesses such as leukemia or cancer.
Here is their mission statement: To return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children.
The hairdresser pictured in the background is my sister. She is pretty much my hero. She owns her own salon, is a mother, has a monogram business, recovers furniture, and still finds time to spend with charities and run Junior Auxiliary. She makes us all look lazy.
Her birthday was August 2nd and this past week she went to the doctor. She has been diagnosed with rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, which is very painful on her hands and feet. Please remember her while she copes with this hardship. I know she won't let it get her down!
Awwwwww. I have so much love for this piece. I've donated to Locks of Love twice now, and Rapunzel is one of my most favorite princesses of all time. This actually is what I thought of when I saw her in the movie cut her hair off, haha. My mom's fellow teacher had a daughter that passed away from childhood leukemia as a teenager, so donating has always been special to our family. This is a great idea.
Actually it's best that you don't give any hair to locks of love. If you must know their are a ton of requirements for your hair to make the cut, and over 80% of their donations are sold.
